Instructions for Authors
The journal allergopedia accepts articles on the following topics:
- Short monographs or concise reviews of allergens, haptens, or irritants
- Short articles presenting up-to-date definitions of medical terms related to allergy, sensitization, or irritant reactions
- Reviews or original proposals for systematics and nomenclature of allergens, haptens, or irritants
- Reviews of mechanisms of sensitization to allergens or haptens, or irritant reactions
- Case reports presenting diagnostic work-up substantiating the causal relationship between clinical picture and the causative factor
- Original research of allergens, haptens, or irritants
- Other topics with relevance to the above-outlined scope of the journal
Manuscript organisation
Submitted work should be concise and focussed on practicalities rather than indigestible medico-scientific detail. The expected size of the manuscript should be within the range of 1000 - 5000 (excluding title, names, affilliations and references), although reasonable and justified deviations from this general rule will be accepted.
Original articles should be organised as follows:
- Title, authors with ORCiD (if available), affiliation with ROR (if available), corresponding author's address
- Abstract of 100-400 words, 3-10 keywords
- Introduction, presenting rationale for the study
- Aim
- Material and methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conflict of interest statement
- Declaration of contributions by individual co-authors
- Acknowledgements (optional)
- References
Monographic articles of allergens, haptens, or irritants should be organised as follows:
- Title, authors with ORCiD (if available), affiliation with ROR (if available), corresponding author's address
- An introductory encyclopedic definition of the agent
- Nomenclature and synonyms of the agent, including names in other languages
- An overview of the agent's sources - environmental, domestic, occupational, etc.
- Health problems caused by the agent
- Diagnostic methods to confirm causality
- Diagnostic material and devices available or preparation methods for suitable test material
- Epidemiology of positive test reactions
- Conflict of interest statement
- Declaration of contributions by individual co-authors
- Acknowledgements (optional)
- References
Reviews of allergens, haptens or irritants should be organised as follows:
- Title, authors with ORCiD (if available), affiliation with ROR (if available), corresponding author's address
- Abstract of 100-400 words, 3-10 keywords
- Introduction, presenting rationale for the work
- Sub-headings as appropriate
- Concluding remarks as appropriate
- Conflict of interest statement
- Declaration of contributions by individual co-authors
- Acknowledgements (optional)
- References
Case reports should be organised as follows:
- Title, authors with ORCiD (if available), affiliation with ROR (if available), corresponding author's address
- Abstract of 50-100 words, 3-10 keywords
- Introduction, presenting rationale for the work
- Case presentation
- Diagnostic work-up
- Final diagnosis
- Discussion
- Conflict of interest statement
- Declaration of contribution by individual co-authors
- Acknowledgements (optional)
- References
Citations and list of references
Either numerical- or Harvard-style citations are accepted provided they are consistently used in the entire article. However, Harvard style citations lend themselves more easily to within-document hyperlinking to the References section and thence to the original online article via a DOI.
If using a numerical style, the references should be numbered consecutively in square brackets (e.g., [1]) reflecting their first appearance in the text, while the References list should be ordered in the same sequence – from the first to the last cited.
If using the Harvard style, provide the authors' names followed by the publication year, e.g. (Uter et al. 2010, Riario Sforza & Marinou 2017, Spiewak 2018). In this case, the Reference list should be provided in author-date order.
We would recommend that References are presented in a simplified NLM format – which can readily be copy-and-pasted from PubMed via the Cite button found on each article page. Check an already published allergopedia article for detail regarding the formatting of in-text citations and of lists of References in our simplified AMA style. DOI (digital object identifier) numbers should be added to references wherever available.

Tables and figures; Graphic material
Photographs, drawings, and figures should be submitted as tiff, jpg, png, or (if unavoidable) gif files at a resolution (300 dpi or greater) that makes them easily legible at an image size of 400×400 pixels when reduced to 72 dpi for the web.
Index terms
Allergopedia is an innovative, encyclopedic journal. Therefore, an alphabetical index is of pivotal importance. Please provide with your manuscript a list of all allergens, haptens and irritants and if appropriate the name of the organism(s) in which they occur. Please note that there may be more keywords than index terms in an article.
